Cadaver Lab

In response to LIGO alumni/ae's suggestions for the cadaver lab, the lab now gives maximum surgical experience to all lab attendees. Four attendees will be assigned to each of 24 cadavers, with 48 surgeons attending the lab in the morning session and 48 in the afternoon session. New cadavers will be provided for the afternoon session. At the beginning of each cadaver session, preceptors will conduct a peritoneal and retroperitoneal exploration.

Each team will consist of 2 sets of 2 surgical partners. Each team will have one four hour session to work on their cadaver, either morning or afternoon. This enables optimal sharing of the allotted cadaver time to each team. It is imperative that each of the 4 surgeons on a team share the time allotted to the entire team. To that end, each surgeon will rotate as "primary surgeon" in 20 minute increments with their assigned surgical partner. The other 2 surgeons on the team will observe or practice on pelvic trainers. When teams are in the classroom on lab day, LIGO faculty will give lectures on relevant topics and pelvic trainers will be available for suturing practice.
