APRIL 2012 COURSE

7TH ANNUAL SURGICAL MASTERS COURSE IN TOTAL LAPAROSCOPIC HYSTERECTOMY
WITH OPTIONAL ONCOLOGY FOCUS
Designed for gynecologic surgeons and oncologists,this intensive hands-on 'how to' course demonstrates multiple techniques of total laparoscopic hysterectomy and advanced laparoscopic procedures using slides, videos and suture challenges on pelvic trainers. Our goal is to teach TLH efficiently and effectively by using one proven energy source; operating through the smallest incisions, with the most universally available tools, and by advancing skills using three proven learning techniques: video, haptic and didactic.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, surgeons will:

  1. Be prepared to perform total laparoscopic hysterectomy:
    exposed to four techniques
  2. Be prepared to perform advanced laparoscopic procedures: enterocele repair, uterosacral ligament plication, ureterolysis and bowel resection for endometriosis, cystoscopy, appendectomy
  3. Be prepared to perform laparoscopic surgery for the very obese, the very large mass, and the very large uterus
  4. Be able to estimate and manage anesthetic implications of steep trendelenberg and pneumoperitoneum
  5. Be able to detect, avoid and manage intestinal and urological injury
  6. Be able to integrate ethical issues of incorporating new skills into practice
  7. Oncologists will learn advanced dissections and radical laparoscopic hysterectom
